London Shatters Cold Weather Record

It was a record breaking chill in London Tuesday as temperatures dipped to -12 C.

The frigid temperature smashed the old record low of -10.5 C set back in 1995.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Geoff Coulson says the reason for these cold temperatures has to do with weather patterns.

"We saw a pretty dramatic shift in the temperature pattern, over the course of the last few days," Coulson says. "The winter and the first part of the spring was generally milder than normal. But there does appear to be a change occurring now, we are setting ourselves up for colder than normal conditions."

Those looking forward to a warm spring may have to wait a little bit longer. Coulson says the cold temperatures are set to stay with us until mid-April.

"It looks like we're still going to be looking at pretty chilly temperatures, through the weekend and even into next week," Coulson says. "There will still be a fair amount of sunshine, especially for the coming weekend, so if you can stay out of the wind it still could feel quite pleasant. But overall, these temperatures, are expected to remain colder than normal, until about the 16th or 17th of the month."
