More than a week after a teen girl in Mitchell was offered a ride by a stranger, OPP have determined there was no criminal intent behind the act.
Perth OPP say a man came forward admitting he was the one who offered the girl a ride as she walked to school on May 6. Police believe a minor language barrier and cultural differences may have led to "mistaken perceptions" of the man's actions.
The man has apologized for any anxiety he may have caused the victim, her family, and the community.
Police say the incident serves as a reminder for parents to teach their children how to react if someone tries to take them or lure them into a vehicle. They say it is important to instill confidence, not fear, and reinforce that children should never accept rides from strangers.
