Provincial police are stressing the importance of safety and preparedness after a jet-ski rider was stranded on Lake Erie for five hours.
Norfolk OPP say there were called around 9:45pm Sunday after a man riding a Sea-Doo didn't return from an outing on the Lake. The 48-year-old Stoney Creek man set out from the Inner Bay around 4:45pm. When he didn't return, concerned family members called for help.
The OPP's Marine Unit, Norfolk County Fire Services, and the Coast Guard launched a search for him. Fire-fighters heard him yelling for help from the area of Osgood Marsh. He was rescued and taken to hospital for treatement of minor injuries.
“Boating is a great activity and the OPP are urging everyone to be prepared for a day on the water, it will increase your safety and enjoyment of boating,” says Constable Ed Sanchuk, Norfolk County OPP.
