One person is dead and two have been taken to hospital after a crash in south London.
Around 1:30pm Friday, emergency crews were called to Wilton Grove Rd. near Old Victoria Rd. after an eastbound pickup truck collided with a westbound car. The impact of the collision left the truck on its side.
The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger from the car and the truck driver were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
"Wilton Grove Rd. is an 80km/h zone. This is a high speed collision and as a result there is quite a lengthy debris field that the collision investigators are going to have to sort out," says Staff Sergeant Blair Harvey.
Police aren't speculating about the cause of the crash.
Harvey says collisions like this serve as a grave reminder of the importance of safe driving.
"People need to drive with extra care and attention when travelling along the roads that are on the fringe of the city," says Harvey. "The speed limit is higher and obviously the risk for a high speed collision like this is a lot greater."
Wilton Grove Rd. between Old Victoria Rd. and Highbury Ave. will be closed until at least 6pm as police continue to investigate.
