London police had to use a spike belt to stop a stolen vehicle they say was being driven erratically following a hit and run crash.
Officers were called to the minor two-vehicle crash at Clarence St. and Dufferin Ave. around 5:30pm on Wednesday. One of the vehicles took off from the scene but a check of the licence plate revealed the vehicle was reported stolen.
Half an hour later, police received reports of the stolen vehicle being driven erratically in the north end. Several officers flooded the area and located the vehicle in the area of Oxford St. W and Wharncliffe Rd. N. A "tire deflation device" was used to bring the vehicle to a stop.
Police say the two people inside then took off on foot but were found a short distance away by K9 officers.
A 19-year-old man and a youth are charged with possession of stolen property over $5,000 and possession of a prohibited weapon. The 19-year-old is also charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failing to remain at the scene of a collision, and driving while disqualified.
