Dead Baby Case Put Over To September

It will be at least next month before a trial date is set for a woman accused of leaving her newborn baby in a downtown London dumpster.

A lawyer for Samantha Richards, of Amherstburg, appeared on her behalf at the London courthouse on Thursday morning, where the case was put over to September 8.

Patricia Brown asked the court for more time to go over the details of the case.

Richards was charged with neglecting to obtain assistance in childbirth and with disposing of a child’s body after delivery after an infant was found in a dumpster near Richmond St. and Mill St. on June 16 around 11:30am.

Following her June 23 hearing, Richards was released on bail with numerous restrictions including a ban on contact with certain individuals and children under 10 unless supervised by an adult.

A publication ban is in place on all evidence and information presented in court.
