Provincial police have confirmed that terrorism suspect Aaron Driver died from a gunshot wound.
The 24-year-old was killed during a confrontation with RCMP outside of a home in Strathroy last Wednesday.
Initially, police were unsure whether Driver was killed by gunfire or an explosive device they say he detonated inside of a cab.
Driver was living in Strathroy on a peace bond after his arrest last year in Winnipeg for posting statements on social media in support of the Islamic State.
The FBI alerted the RCMP at 8:30am on August 10 that an individual was planning to detonate a homemade explosive device in an urban centre during morning or afternoon rush hour. By 11am the RCMP had identified the individual as Driver and confronted him as he came out of a Strathroy home and got into a cab around 4:30pm. Driver died shortly after.
Strathroy-Caradoc Police Chief Laurie Hayman requested Driver's death be investigated by the OPP Criminal Investigations Branch.
The investigation is on-going.
