Johnson Remains Out On Bail

Judge Kirk Munroe has released former Windsor Spitfire Ben Johnson on bail after finding him guilty of sexual assault.

On Thursday, Johnson was convicted of the sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl in a downtown Windsor bar.

Defence lawyer Evan Weber, who was representing Johnson on behalf of Patrick Ducharme, says Johnson is reeling from the decision and wants to deal with his sentence sooner rather than later.

"Obviously, it didn't go in his favour but he wants to, ultimately, as anyone in this situation would start moving on with his life. Obviously, there's a lot that's going to happen before he's going to be able to do that," says Weber.

Johnson's sentencing hearing will be held on October 24, 2016. Two days have been set aside for sentencing.

Johnson was released on $27,500 bail, with an additional 15,000 in a surety bond. As part of the conditions of his bail Johnson must not enter Essex County except to appear in court or for scheduled appointments with his lawyer. He is also banned from any association with the victim, members of her family or two crown witnesses. He is not allowed to enter any establishment whose primary function is to sell alcohol.
