Provincial police are calling this past Labour Day long weekend the deadliest one they've seen in 20 years.
Over the three days, there were 12 road fatalities, one marine fatality, and one off-road vehicle death on OPP patrolled roads. The most severe crash involved a single-vehicle and took the lives of four people in Northwestern Ontario.
Fortunately, there were no fatal collisions in the London region. A 20-year-old man was seriously hurt in a single-vehicle rollover in Elgin County on Saturday.
A distracted driving campaign held by OPP over the long weekend saw 800 motorists charged for using a hand held device while behind the wheel. So far this year, a total of 8,800 distracted driving charges have been laid by provincial police.
