The province's Special Investigations Unit has launched an investigation into the death of woman in police custody.
Elgin OPP say they arrested a woman on outstanding warrants on Wednesday at 7pm. Once in custody, she went into medical distress. An ambulance was called to Elgin OPP headquarters and took the woman to hospital.
She has since been pronounced dead.
Elgin OPP say the SIU has invoked its mandate.
The SIU investigates whenever a civilian is injured or killed during interactions with police.
