Even with 15 players away at NHL training camps, the London Knights outscored the Erie Otters 6-1 to end the preseason on a high note at home.
Strong goaltending from both teams kept the first period scoreless, but the Knights' Robert Thomas put one in Erie's net early in the second.
Liam Foudy scored two in a row, giving London a 3-0 edge before Erie's Carson Edwardson got one back to make it 3-1. Less than a minute after that, London again sat on a three goal lead after Alex Formenton tapped one in to end the second period.
Back for the third, Formenton scored a beautiful backhand goal; his fourth of the preseason and his second in this game, to give the Knights a four goal advantage.
Billy Moskal added one more goal for the Knights with five seconds left in the game to make the final score 6-1.
Emanuel Vella and Tyler Johnson shared net duties for the Knights, Jake Lawr handled netminding duties for the Otters.
The Knights' regular season will get underway in Sarnia on Wednesday, September 21 against the Sting. Their first home game at Budweiser Gardens will be Friday, September 23 at 7:30pm vs the Otters and will feature the raising of their 2016 Memorial Cup Championship banner.
