A Glencoe elementary school closed because of mould concerns doesn't appear to be close to re-opening.
The Thames Valley District School Board announced Thursday that students from Ekcoe Central Public School will continue to attend temporary classes at Glencoe District High School until at least the beginning of next week.
Work continues on removing from Eckoe Central the mould that forced the board to close the school at the beginning of the school year. The TVDSB says it will give a timeline for the completion of the clean-up on Monday.
"The Thames Valley District School Board wants to provide School Board staff, contractors and occupational health and safety consultants as much time as they need to reduce the potential for mould growth in the school in the future," the board says in an on-line statement.
The statement lists the work that has been done and is being done to make the school suitable for students again. That work includes:
- Chalk boards being removed, cleaned, and reinstalled
- Desks, chairs being cleaned
- Replacement of all ceiling tiles
- Detailed cleaning of all spaces, including underside of steel roof, light fixtures, fire and life safety devices, projectors and white boards.
- Removal and cleaning of ventilation ducts
- All lower cabinets containing classroom sinks have been removed and replaced with the exception of the newly renovated Kindergarten classroom.
