A decision to implement a new IT system at Goodlife Fitness will result in the loss of almost 300 jobs.
The London-based fitness chain announced it is cutting 60 jobs at its head office and another 225 across Canada.
"These changes will involve our Protective Data Services department at our Home Office in London and our Club Administrator roles located in some of our Clubs," Chief Operating Officer Jane Riddell said in an emailed statement.
The changes will begin in the Spring of 2017 in order to give employees plenty of advance notice and enough time to "transition to other roles with Goodlife or to make other plans going forward", according to Riddell. She says Goodlife Fitness is the first company to introduce this club management IT system in North America.
""Our people are very important to us and we work hard to keep great people with us. GoodLife employees involved in this change, that do not find other positions within the company, will be offered separation packages, as well as access to career transition services and extended access to GoodLife’s Employee Assistance Program," Riddell says. "As a part of this restructuring process, we are creating a new position in our Clubs, called a Senior Motivator. Our hope is that we can retain many of these great employees in this role, or in one of the hundreds of other available positions that we are recruiting for. Additionally, Protective Data Services will retain a smaller team after the changes are complete."
Goodlife Fitness recently moved into a new head office on Proudfoot Lane at Oxford St. in London.
