Arrest Made In Sexual Assault

A London man is now charged after a woman was sexually assaulted, allegedly by the driver of a so-called "bandit cab."

London police say a woman reported on November 1 that she had been sexually assaulted. The woman told police that, around 3:15am, she and a friend were downtown when they negotiated a ride home with a man they believed was providing a ride service.

When they reached their destination, the woman and her friend paid the driver and went into a home. Police say the driver went to the home to tell the woman she left some items in the back of his car. When she went to the car to look, it is alleged the driver sexually assaulted her. She was able to free herself and went back into the home and called police.

After an investigation by the London Police Service Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section, police arrested Wopatshu Ukumu, 26, of London. He is charged with one count of sexual assault.

Police say they were able to determine that he was not a driver with any cab company or ride service.
