Middlesex OPP Cruiser Struck On Hwy. 402

A Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) cruiser has been hit by a passing vehicle, while investigating at the scene of another collision.

Police say two cruisers had been parked on Hwy. 402 east of Centre Rd., where a tow truck had been assisting a driver who went into the centre median. One of the cruisers was hit by a passing vehicle.

Both cruisers had activated their emergency lights and the second cruiser had activated flares set up behind it.

Once the vehicle from the initial collision had been cleared away, another passing motorist crashed into one of the cruisers. Police say there was serious damage done to the vehicles. One officer has been taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The two drivers whose vehicles collided with the OPP cruiser have been charged with careless driving.

Due to the current driving conditions, Middlesex OPP are urging drivers to stay off the roads unless travel is necessary.
