Salvation Army In Need Of Kettle Volunteers

With just three weeks until Christmas, the Salvation Army is making a desperate appeal for more volunteers to work its kettles.

Salvation Army officials issued the urgent plea for volunteers on Monday, noting 25% of their kettle shifts have yet to be filled.

“Just one, three hour shift is all that’s needed to help local families celebrate Christmas this year,” says Shannon Wise, The Salvation Army spokesperson. “If every person in London could volunteer three hours of their time to be a bell-ringer, the impact would be huge. Donations are extremely important, but without volunteers our Kettle Campaign will not meet its goal.”

The annual Christmas Kettle campaign has a goal to raise $500,000 this year. Money raised during the campaign goes toward the Christmas hamper program, which provides food and toys to families in need over the holidays.

It's estimated 5,800 London households will receive a hamper this year. That's up 200 households compared to last year.

Anyone interested in working a kettle between now and December 24 is asked to call 519-433-6106 or sign up online at londonchristmaskettles.ca.
