Food Drive Falling Short Of Goal

With just three days left to collect food, the Business Cares Food Drive is barely over halfway to its goal.

The food drive has only brought in 55% of its goal of 307,801 lbs of food as of Monday morning.

"I'm always optimistic because the generosity of Londoners always does come through," said Wayne Dunn, chair of the Business Cares Food Drive. "This truly is Christmas week and the spirit of giving really will take over. What we need is a little reminder right now that we are out there."

The 17th annual drive, which kicked off on December 1, challenges companies of all sizes to collect donations for the London Food Bank.

"I know we have a lot of donation pickups to do in the next three days but the request is out there now for everybody to donate food to any of our drop off locations or we will come pick it up. Alternatively, you can write a cheque," said Dunn.

Any monetary donations made to the campaign will be used to purchase fresh produce, milk, eggs, and meat.

Dunn points out the need for donations is even greater this year, with demand for the food bank up 12% compared to this time last year.

"Given where we are right now, there is a lot of work to do in three days. It's an awful lot of food which is all needed," said Dunn.

Businesses or individuals interested in donating food and/or cheques can do so at County Heritage at 1275 Hubrey Rd., Finch Auto dealerships, London YMCA Branches, the Covent Garden Market, or RBC Branches.

All donations collected during the food drive will be delivered to the London Food Bank on Thursday.
