The London area finished off 2016 with an unemployment rate of 7%.
Statistics Canada released the jobless figures for December on Friday morning.
The London-St. Thomas rate climbed to 7% from 6.9% in November. There were 1,800 fewer people working last month while the labour force also shrank by 1,800.
Nationally, the unemployment rate climbed to 6.9% from 6.8% in November.
Over the course of the year, Canada's economy added 153,700 net new part-time jobs and just 60,400 full-time positions.
