Police Locate Rightful Owner Of Cash

Police have located the rightful owner of $500 that was left at a Tillsonburg ATM machine on Christmas Eve.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on December 24, 2016, a man discovered the cash at the Bank of Montreal on Broadway St.  The Good Samaritan waited at the machine for over 30 minutes, hoping the person who had left the money at the ATM would return. However, when no one attempted to claim the cash, it was turned over to the OPP.

On Thursday, police said a man from Bayham Township had been identified as the owner, and the cash has since been returned.  The man had heard media reports about the turned in cash and returned to the bank, where he was directed to contact the OPP.

The owner was able to correctly identify the amount he lost to police, and it was further confirmed through the bank.

Police are still looking for the owner of another bundle of lost cash that was located on Boxing Day, at the eastbound Hwy. 401 ONroute Service Centre.

The OPP said on December, the $250 in U.S. currency was found on the sidewalk and turned over to police.

Anyone who may have lost the cash is asked to contact the OPP at 519-485-6554 or 1-888-310-1122. The owners will be asked to identify the exact amount and time it was lost.
