Police Searching For Pizza Kit Scammer

If you get a knock at your door from someone who claims to be selling pizza kits on behalf of the Ailsa Craig Food Bank, don't buy it.

Middlesex OPP say officers got a report about a week ago about a man going door-to-door telling people that he is selling pizza kits on behalf of the food bank as a fundraiser.

Officers say staff at the food bank alerted police about the scam after receiving a call from someone who had paid for the kits, but hadn't received any.

As a result, police are reminding the public to be wary of door-to-door salespeople and they have a couple of tips for how to protect yourself against scammers.

The Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre says you should:

- Ask for photo ID and get the name of the person or the charity they represent

- Ask for the charity's breakdown of where the funds are allocated and be sure to get it in writing

- Never share any personal information or copies of any bills or financial statements

Anyone who has information regarding this particular pizza kit fundraiser scam is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
