UPDATE: Downtown Stabbing Sends One To Hospital

One man is facing charges after a woman was stabbed in broad daylight in downtown London.

London police were called to the area of Horton St. E and Wellington St., just outside of Goodwill Industries, around 2pm on Tuesday, after the woman suffered a stab wound to her neck. She was rushed to hospital with life threatening injuries and had to undergo emergency surgery. She is currently listed in stable condition.

Alannah Hickson, who witnesses the incident, said it began as an argument between two men.

"I was having my lunch, just relaxing, when I saw two males exchanging words. One of the males and a female were walking away from the other male but he followed," said Hickson. "One of the males punched the other in the face and that is when the girl intervened and the male slashed her across the neck with a knife."

Hickson said bystanders rushed to the injured woman's aid, with one person using their vest to try and stop the bleeding.

"For that to happen in the middle of the day, in front of so many people is just shocking," said Hickson.

Shortly after the stabbing, two men were arrested nearby and a knife was also recovered by officers.

One of the men has since been released without charges. The other, 30-year-old Hashim Peters of London, has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.
