Leave Pets At Home, Not In Hot Vehicles

With temperatures approaching the 30 C mark, provincial police are once again reminding motorists not to leave their furry friends unattended in hot vehicles.

Two dogs were spotted inside a vehicle parked at the Wal-Mart parking lot in Simcoe around 4:20pm on Sunday. A passerby, concerned for the dogs wellbeing, called Norfolk OPP after noticing the animals.

Officers found the vehicle and investigated the incident. A 71-year-old South Hampton man is now charged with leaving animals unattended in a motor vehicle.

It is unclear how long the dogs were left unattended inside the vehicle but police say the citizen who contacted them made the right choice.

"If you see an animal in a vehicle on a warm or humid day who you believe may be in distress, gather as much information as you can. Obtain the make, model and licence plate of the vehicle, and immediately enter the store and have the owner paged and contact police," said Constable Ed Sanchuk, in a news release issued Monday.
