Cenotaph Typo To Be Fixed

London's facilities manager says a typo on the newly renovated cenotaph in Victoria Park should be fixed by next week.

The dates of Canada's mission to Afghanistan read 2010-2014 instead of 2001-2014.

Tim Wellhauser, facilities manager with the City of London, says the mistake was discovered this past Monday during a review of the renovated cenotaph.

"On the original design drawings that were provided by our design team, they had the correct date on there, and that was signed off on by a number of different people that reviewed the project," Wellhauser says. "When the consultant flipped it to the contract drawings they made a technical error at that time. They somehow got a 1 and a 0 mixed up. I'm not exactly sure sure how. They haven't fully explained that."

Wellhauser says the mistake was not the fault of the person who carved the dates into the stone.

Regardless of how it happened, Wellhauser is sure that once the mistake is fixed, there won't be any lingering evidence of it.

"It's never an easy fix when you're working with stone but we do have a very qualified stone mason on board to do the work. They are confident that the work will not be noticeable," he says.

Wellhauser adds the cost of correcting the dates won't be paid by the city.
