London police say charges have been laid after a vehicle slammed into a traffic light standard and gas station sign, closing an east-end intersection throughout the morning commute Thursday.
Officers were called to the single-vehicle crash at Adelaide St. N and Cheapside St. around 4am.
Police say they had observed a stolen vehicle in the area of Taylor St. and Cheapside St. Officers chased the vehicle for a short distance and there was a collision with a cruiser. The driver took off before hitting the light standard and gas station sign at Adelaide and Cheapside. After a brief foot chase, a man was taken into custody.
He's charged with:
- Assaulting a peace officer
- Possession of property obtained by crime
- Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle
- Resisting arrest
- Assaulting a peace officer with a weapon
- Driving while suspended
