One man is dead and another man injured in what police call a targeted attack at an east London home.
Police say the initial call came in at around 11:40pm Monday for a disturbance at a residence on Lansdowne Ave. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man who had been stabbed and a second man who had been assaulted. The second man's injuries were non-life threatening.
Both of the victims were taken to the hospital, where the man who was stabbed was later pronounced dead. He has been identified as 43-year-old Raymond Beaver of London.
The second victim, a 47-year-old London man, was treated at hospital and released. Police say several people were seen running from the scene, but officers have yet to make any arrests in connection with the case.
Officers believe the homicide and the assault were part of a "targeted incident" and not a random event.
The investigation has been turned over to the Major Crime Section of the London Police Service. Half a dozen police vehicles remained on scene Tuesday morning, as investigators canvassed the area for witnesses. Surveillance footage from security cameras on nearby homes was also collected.
Neighbours, who did not want to give their names, described on-going drug activity at the home. A woman, who has lived on the tiny street between Nelson St. and Trafalgar St. for 22 years, said many residents no longer feel safe in that area. While police frequently patrol the street, it does little to stop the drug use and break-ins, she said.
This is London's third homicide of the year.
