A Taste Of Winter Weather

Residents of the London area could get their first taste of winter weather Thursday night.

Environment Canada has issued a snow squall watch for London and Middlesex County with up to 10 cm of snow possible overnight Thursday.

The national weather agency anticipates snow squalls will develop to the southeast of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay Thursday evening and will continue well into the day Friday. Temperatures will plummet to the freezing mark as a cold front moves into southern Ontario ahead of the development of squalls. That will make roads and sidewalks slippery as rain changes to flurries and ice.

During squalls, visibility will be significantly reduced due to heavy snow combined with blowing snow. Areas hit with multiple squalls could see in excess of 15 cm of snow.

Motorists are advised to plan ahead as travel may become hazardous. Public Safety Canada encourages drivers to make an emergency plan and equip vehicles with an emergency kit that includes drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit, and a flashlight.

The winter weather will be short lived with mainly sunny skies and a high of 1 C forecast for Saturday.
