Brandon Prust has returned to the London Knights, but this time as a coach.
The former NHL player made the announcement Tuesday over social media.
Wearing Knights coaching gear and holding a hockey stick, Prust is all smiles in a photo posted to his Instagram account. He captioned the picture "1st day as a coach! Exciting stuff! @londonknightsohl."
The photo was liked more than 16,500 times in just 17 hours with just as many congratulatory messages from fans.
The 33-year-old's attempt at an NHL comeback fell through in September when he failed to earn a contract with the Los Angeles Kings after spending ten days at the club's training camp on a professional try-out.
Prust played three seasons for the London Knights and was part of the 2005 Memorial Cup winning team.
He went on to play 486 career NHL games with Calgary, Phoenix, the New York Rangers, Montreal, and Vancouver. The Thorndale native also travelled overseas to play with Germany's Nuremberg Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers of the Deutsche Eishockey League.
Details of Prust's current role with the Knights have not been released.
