Six Escape Mount Brydges House Fire

Smoke detectors are credited for saving the lives of six people after a fire broke out inside a Mount Brydges home.

The Strathroy Caradoc Police Service says on Tuesday around 6:58am, multiple fire departments responded to a blaze on Helen St.  Fire crews were able to contain the fire to the first floor, however, heavy smoke caused damage throughout the house.

Six people were able to escape the home without injury after being alerted by their smoke detectors, police officials say. However, several small pets perished in the fire.

A fire inspector attended the scene and determined that the fire was accidentally caused by a faulty electrical cord.

Damage is estimated at around $280,000 for the structure and another $100,000 for contents.
