You don't have to be an athlete to get involved in the Ontario Summer Games when they come to London this August.
The Host Organizing Committee officially launched its volunteer registration program for the games on Wednesday.
Approximately 1,000 volunteers will be needed when the competition that pits the province’s top young athletes against one another comes to the city August 2 to 5.
“Through the years of hosting countless successful events, London has developed a great reputation when it comes to volunteers so we have no doubt the community will come through again," said Dave De Kelver, general manager of the London 2018 Ontario Summer Games. "These games are a wonderful opportunity to gain experience, meet fellow engaged citizens, and showcase our great city to over 3,500 participants and their families.”
Volunteer positions for the games range from accreditation, sport and event operations, transportation, and opening ceremony. While there is no fee to volunteer, a Vulnerable Sector Check is required.

Over 3,500 athletes ranging in age from 12 to 18, coaches, and officials will be in the city over the Civic long weekend for the Summer Games. Tourism London Director of Sport Tourism Cheryl Finn had previously indicated hosting the province’s largest multi-sport event will provide a $6-million economic boost to the city.
This is London’s fourth time hosting the summer sporting event. The games were held in London in 2004, 1996, and 1975.
