St. Thomas police are tracking down a car thief on the run.
Early Saturday morning, police say an officer on general patrol came across a vehicle being stolen out of a laneway in the south end of St. Thomas.
According to police, a man left the vehicle being stolen and ran to another waiting vehicle and drove off. The second vehicle was confirmed stolen.
Police chased the man, but stopped shortly after for public safety concerns.
Officers later located the same stolen vehicle parked at a local business. When police tried to box the vehicle in again, the driver drove away across the lawn.
The stolen vehicle was last seen heading westbound on Hwy. 3 from First Ave. in St. Thomas. The vehicle is described as a 2005 White GMC Sierra pickup truck with an Ontario licence plate (6225FL).
The driver of the vehicle has not been identified.
Police warn residents to not approach the vehicle if spotted, but rather contact police immediately.
According to police, the original vehicle that was trying to be stolen by the suspect was recovered and will be examined by the forensic identification unit.
