One person is dead and another has serious injuries after a head-on crash east of Aylmer.
An eastbound pickup truck and a westbound sedan collided on Hwy. 3 between Hacienda Rd. and Springfield Rd. in Malahide Township around 9:45am Thursday.
The sedan driver, an adult man, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Elgin OPP. His name is not being released until police can notify family.
The driver of the truck was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Talbot Line between Hacienda Rd. and Springfield Rd. was closed for five hours as OPP Technical Collision Investigators tried to determine the cause of the crash. The stretch of roadway was reopened at 3pm.
This is the second fatal collision in Elgin County in roughly a two-hour span on Thursday. A woman was killed when her car collided head-on with an empty school bus on Highbury Ave., near Thompson Line around 7:15am. The school bus driver was not hurt. The cause of that crash remains under investigation.
