Low-Speed E-Bike Chase Ends In Fight With Police

A low-speed chase involving London police and an e-bike is being investigated by the province's police watchdog after it ended with one person being sent to hospital.

The London Police Service says on Wednesday around 8:20pm, officers spotted an e-bike being driven erratically in the area of Hamilton Rd. and Inkerman St. and attempted to pull the driver over. However, the slow-moving e-bike did not stop and attempted to flee from police.

Officers eventually located the vehicle and the male driver, who was arrested after a brief struggle with officers.

The driver had to be taken to hospital following the arrest and was treated for unknown injuries before being released.

A 55-year-old London man is now charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, failing to provide a breath sample, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight while being pursued by police, and resisting arrest.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has been notified of the incident and has invoked their mandate to investigate.

The SIU investigates incidents involving police officers that have resulted in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
