Mother Pleads Guilty To Putting Deceased Baby In Dumpster

An Amherstburg woman has pleaded guilty to leaving her dead newborn baby in a London dumpster.

Samantha Richards, 25, was arrested charged in June of 2016, a few days after the body of her newborn son was found in a dumpster in the area of Richmond St. and Mill St. Her lawyer, Patricia Brown, confirmed that Richards pleaded guilty to a charge of concealing the body of a child in London Superior Court on May 18. Brown would not comment further on the case.

A charge of failing to obtain assistance in childbirth was dropped in December because the Crown believed there was no reasonable prospect of conviction.

A sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 20.
