SIU Investigating After Wrong-Way Driver Arrested

The province's Special Investigations Unit has been called after an allegedly impaired wrong-way driver was injured while in police custody.

Elgin OPP arrested a 20-year-old man after getting reports of a vehicle going the wrong way on Hwy. 401 near Dutton around 9am Tuesday.

Spencer Gosset of Plympton-Wyoming faces several charges, including impaired driving, dangerous driving, driving while disqualified, refusing to provide a breath sample, and drug possession.

"While in custody, the male sustained an injury. He was transported to a local hospital for medical attention," Elgin OPP said in a statement released Thursday.

The Special Investigations Unit has invoked its mandate to investigate the circumstances surrounding Gosset's injury.
