Provincial police say a recent crash on Lake Erie serves as a stern reminder that you need to make safety a priority when you're out on the water.
Officers were called to Turkey Point just before 3:30pm Tuesday after hearing that a 17-year-old Oakville boy was seriously injured after he was thrown from a Sea-Doo while he was at Pottahawk on Lake Erie.
Off-duty police officers and other bystanders witnessed the incident and were able to hold the teen above the water until emergency services could arrive.
Police say once the boy was brought back to the shore, he was airlifted to a London-area hospital to be treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
"The OPP need everyone to put their safety as a priority," said Norfolk County OPP Constable Ed Sanchuck in a news release. "If it hadn't been for the quick thinking actions of everyone involved, the outcome could have been a tragic one."
The investigation is ongoing.
