Moir, Virtue To Hold 'Thank You' Event In Ilderton

Canadian figure skating champions Scott Moir and Tessa Virtue have always been flabbergasted by the love and support they've received from their hometowns, now the ice dancing duo have found a way to express their appreciation.

Moir took to Twitter Thursday to announced the pair will host a "thank you Ilderton" event in the town next month. The community-spirited day will include a parade, live music, a kids zone, and food trucks.

"I am so proud to call Ilderton home," Moir posted to social media. "No matter what part of the world Tessa and I are in, we always know the entire community of Ilderton is behind us."

Moir continued that it has always been a dream of his to give back to the community that has given him and Tessa so much.

"It seems like an impossible task to give Ilderton the thank you it deserves, but Tessa and I are going to try," Moir added. "Thank you Ilderton, for all your support over the years. It’s time Tessa and I celebrate you."

Moir and Virtue's Thank You Ilderton event will be held at the Ilderton Arena and Fairgrounds from 3pm to 10pm August 4.

Hundreds of local fans packed the London International Airport in February to welcome the figure skaters home from the Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Their gold medal victories in ice dancing and team figure skating were watched by over 200 people on a big screen set up in the Ilderton community centre.

Virtue and Moir are the most decorated figure skaters in Olympic history, having won a total of three gold medals and two silvers.

They are currently overseas, wrapping up the Japanese and European leg of their 2018 Stars of Ice tour.
