Hospital Sex Assault Suspect Back In Court

The former London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) employee accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a patient during a medical procedure will be back in court next week.

Vincent Gauthier's case returned to the London courthouse Tuesday where it was quickly put over until August 28. That is when a date for a judicial pre-trial will be set. The 24-year-old medical technician was not present for the brief proceedings.

Gauthier is charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of overcoming resistance by administering or attempting to administer a drug. He was arrested after a woman told police she was injected with a sedative that put her to sleep during an electroencephalogram (EEG) procedure at University Hospital on April 11. She said when she awoke she was being sexually assaulted.

The hospital suspended Gauthier on April 25 and later terminated his employment. He had been working there since 2015.

Letters were sent to the 838 patients who underwent an EEG performed by Gauthier following his arrest. A hotline (1-888-443-9202) was also established by the LHSC for patients with concerns regarding their procedure. LHSC officials have not confirmed whether any other patients have come forward with additional allegations against Gauthier.

He has been out on bail since June 2.
