A Sweltering Start To The Week

It's going to be a very hot few days in the London area.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for much of southwestern Ontario, including London, Middlesex County, and Elgin County, Oxford County. Forecasters say daytime high temperatures will exceed 30 C on Monday and Tuesday and will approach 30 C on Wednesday. Humidex readings on Monday and Tuesday are expected to reach 40 C.

"Overnight low temperatures will be in the low twenties providing little relief from the heat," Environment Canada said. "The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors."

The weather agency recommends drinking plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place. It also reminds drivers that people or pets should never be left inside a parked vehicle.

Temperatures are expected to return to more seasonable levels later in the week.
