Pre-trial Date Set In Hospital Sex Assault Case

A judicial pre-trial will be held next month for the man accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a patient during a medical procedure at the London Health Sciences Centre.

The date for Vincent Gauthier's judicial pre-trial was selected Tuesday at the London courthouse. An agent acting on behalf of his defence lawyer was present, however, Gauthier was not.

The 24-year-old medical technician is charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of overcoming resistance by administering or attempting to administer a drug. He was arrested after a woman told police she was injected with a sedative that put her to sleep during an electroencephalogram (EEG) procedure at the University campus of the LHSC on April 11. She said when she awoke she was being sexually assaulted.

The London Health Sciences Centre suspended Gauthier on April 25 and later terminated his employment. He had been working there since 2015.

The judicial pre-trial will be held on September 19.
