Impaired driving charges have been laid against a 33-year-old South West Oxford Township man after a motorcycle clocked at more than 200km/h nearly collided with a police cruiser.
Norfolk OPP were notified about an impaired driver in Long Point around 7:52 p.m. on Sunday. Officers responding to the call were driving southbound on Highway 59 when a motorcycle passed between their cruiser and a northbound vehicle.
The motorcycle was travelling at over 200 kilometres per hour, according to police.
A short time later, officers located the motorcycle and arrested the man driving it without incident.
"The officer responding to the call for service was a veteran officer who later indicated that the speed that the rider was travelling would have not only killed the operator, it would have also killed the officer responding to the call, if they had collided," said OPP Inspector Joseph Varga.
Matthew Vansickle of South West Oxford Township is charged with driving while impaired by alcohol, driving with more than 80 milligrams of alcohol, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving without a licence, and driving without insurance.
He will appear in Simcoe court to answer to the charges at a later date.
