More mail theft in St. Thomas

St. Thomas police are handling more complaints about stolen mail.

Police are asking residents to keep a close eye on suspicious activity in and around mail boxes after more theft was reported.

Numerous mail boxes were entered since Saturday morning. Suspects have apparently targeted mailboxes in apartment buildings where there are multiple units. Police say in most of the thefts, the perpetrator had damaged the box to gain access to the contents.

This is the second weekend in a row that there have been numerous instances of theft from mailboxes.

Canada Post has provided information on how to prevent, recognize and report mail theft. Anyone who suspects their mail has been stolen is urged to contact the Canada Post customer service department.

If you believe mail has been stolen that contains your personal information, or if you notice suspicious activity around mailboxes, call St. Thomas police immediately at (519) 631-1224. Suspected mail theft should also be reported to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
