Knights defeat Erie 5-3, head into holiday break

A big middle frame got the London Knights past the Erie Otters Sunday afternoon.

The Knights scored four unanswered goals and put things out of reach for the Otters in their 5-3 win at Budweiser Gardens.

London heads into their Christmas break with a first-place showing in the OHL Midwest Division, with 49 points.

Maxim Golod did get the Otters on the board first with a goal at just 1:12 into the game, but after that it was all London. Connor McMichael began it all when he tied the game for the Knights at 11:34.

The second period intensified the Knights' offensive onslaught. Four more goals were scored. Nathan Dunkley provided the go-ahead score, and this was followed in order by goals from William Lochead, Sahil Panwar and McMichael once more.

Erie scored two goals in the third period in an effort to get back into the contest. Chad Yetman scored at 5:45, and Gera Poddubnyi scored his 18th goal of the season later in the frame.

Joseph Raaymakers stopped 28 shots in goal for the Knights. Daniel Murphy took the loss for the Otters, also with 28 saves.

The Knights are now off on their holiday break, and are back in action on Friday, December 28, when they host their rivals, the Windsor Spitfires.
