Charges laid in crash that killed seven-year-old

A 77-year-old man is now facing charges in connection with a crash in Middlesex Centre that claimed the life of a seven-year-old girl.

The Ontario Provincial Police said on July 30, 2018 just before 4:15 p.m., a pickup truck that was travelling south on Nairn Road turned east onto McEwen Drive and collided with a four-door car that was heading north.

Aleiya Rose Hellowell-Hall, who was in the car, was rushed to hospital in critical condition. The seven-year-old later died from her injuries.

Five other people suffered non-life threatening injuries in the crash.

The OPP announced on Friday that 77-year-old William Bannister has now been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death.  He has since been released from custody with a promise to appear in court on January 8, 2019.
