St. Thomas officer assaulted during arrest

A man is facing multiple charges after being involved in a scuffle near a St. Thomas bar.

St. Thomas officers responded to a call early Sunday morning near the Back Alley Bar and Grill on Princess Ave. near Talbot St, on a report of a disturbance. The investigation identified the alleged instigator, an intoxicated 34-year-old man. Police took the man into custody, but once he was placed in the police cruiser, he began kicking at the officers.

One officer was struck and received minor injuries, according to police.

The suspect has been charged with intoxication in a public place, assault on a peace officer and resisting arrest. He will have a chance to respond to the charges in a court appearance next month.
