The London Knights were able to defeat Sarnia Sting in a big way, winning the New Year's Eve game 7-1 at Budweiser Gardens in London Monday night.
The first period got off to a slow start for both sides. London's Connor McMichael scored the first goal of the game at 17:02.
Nathan Dunkley was able to score the first two goals of the second period at the 3:30 and 7:36 mark. Sarnia got on the board for the first and only time at 11:39 thanks to Nick Grima. the final goal of the period came from Josh Nelson at 12:50.
McMichael scored his second goal of the night 4:48 into the third. The Knights dominated the rest of the period with Joey Keane scoring at 13:36 and Cole Tymkin scoring the last goal of the evening at 14:50.
Knights' goaltender, Joseph Raaymakers, made 27 saves out of 28 shots on net, while Sting's goalie, Cameron Lamour, saved 39 out of 46.
The Sting picked up four of a possible six points since the Christmas Break with home ice wins over Owen Sound and London.
Sarnia captain Ryan McGregor said despite Monday's loss he's excited about what could happen in the second half of the OHL season.
"I think we've really realized how strong our offence is and how much even from the back-end we can get contributions from them and really score goals. I think if we tighten up a little bit on defence we can go on a long run here."
London will try for another win on Thursday 3 against the IceDogs in Niagara at 7 p.m. at the Meridian Centre. Sarnia will get their next shot at a victory in a home game against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Thursday at 7:05 p.m.
