Provincial police are hoping that a big reward will help kick-start the search for whoever killed of an Elgin County couple.
Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the murders of Roger Smith and Wendy Haveron. In the early morning of February 2, 1999 the couple died as a result of blunt force trauma, before a fire was then set in their Wellington Road home north of St. Thomas. Police said the fire was set in an attempt to cover up the murders.
A reward of $50,000 is now being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the murders and fire.
"Police and family members believe that someone may still have information regarding the deaths of Roger and Wendy," police said in a statement released Friday. " Members of the public are urged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122."
