Man accused of impersonating undercover cop

Charges have been laid against a 35-year-old man who London police allege was posing as an undercover cop.

Police were contacted about a man identifying himself as an undercover officer at a business in the area of Hamilton Road and Highbury Avenue around 1 a.m. on Wednesday. The caller told police the man had a visible firearm with him.

When officers arrived on scene they arrested a man without incident. A replica firearm and $20,000 worth of crystal methamphetamine were seized.

A 35-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with impersonating a peace officer, possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a firearm contrary to a prohibition order.

According to police, the incident is a good reminder of why the public should always report suspicious activity to the authorities.
