Police are urging the public to only call 911 in the case of an emergency after having to explain to a Simcoe resident that "exterminator" isn't part of their job description.
The Ontario Provincial Police said on Monday, a male resident of Simcoe made an emergency 911 call from his home to ask for police assistance after finding bugs in his residence.
It is unknown if police have charged the resident for making the frivolous call.
"When people need emergency assistance, dialling 911 gets immediate help under normal circumstances," the OPP said in a news release. "Accidental calls or abuse of 911 ties up emergency lines, communicators and officers which could result in the slower response to a real emergency, risking the safety of people who may need urgent help."
For all non-emergency incidents, police ask that all residents the non-emergency number at 1-888-310-1122.
