Ingersoll house fire deemed suspicious

Fire officials believe a blaze at a home in Ingersoll Tuesday night may have been deliberately set.

Firefighters were called to the Bell Street home after a neighbour noticed smoke billowing out of it and called 911 around 8:30 p.m. The neighbour attempted to enter the burning home to check if anyone was inside, but was unable to due to the thick smoke.

The blaze was extinguished by fire crews, who were also able to stop the flames from spreading to nearby homes.

No one was injured in the fire.

The initial investigation deemed the blaze to be suspicious, Oxford OPP said. The Ontario Fire Marshal's Office has been called in to assist police with the ongoing investigation.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call police at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
