A man is in critical condition following a fire in the basement of a fourplex in east London.
Firefighters were called to the building on Stratton Drive shortly before 9 a.m. on Thursday after smoke was spotted coming out of the basement windows.
One man had to be rescued from the building by firefighters. He was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries and was listed in critical condition Thursday afternoon.
A dozen other tenants from the multi-unit home were displaced by the fire. They were temporarily sheltered in a bus from the London Transit Commission and are now receiving assistance from the Red Cross.
The cause of the blaze is being investigated by the London Fire Department, London police, and the Ontario Fire Marshal's office.
